Head of RPAS and Spatial Systems Italian Air Force
Since June 2016, Colonel Luca DE MARTINIS is the Head of the RPAS and Spatial Systems at the Air Staff Logistic Department.
Col. Luca DE MARTINIS was born in Naples, Italy, in 1964. He entered the Italian Air Force Academy in 1983 and in 1989 he received his University degree with honour as Doctor in Electronical Engineering.
In 1989 he was assigned to Pratica di Mare AFB where he served in numerous positions until 1992 in the Software Management Group of the Italian Air Force Study, Research and Development Division.
In 1992 Col. DE MARTINIS attended the 42nd Guided Weapons Course, in UK at the “Cranfield Institute of Technology - Royal Military College of Science”, Shrivenham (UK), receiving his Master Science Degree in 1993. In 1993 he was reassigned to Pratica di Mare in the Italian Flight Test Center, where, qualified as Flight Test Technician and Flight Test Engineer in 2004, he served in numerous position until 2008, dealing primarily with Tornado, AM-X and EF2000 Operation Flight Programs’ development and maintenance.
From 1998 to 2002, the Colonel was assigned to the International HARM Upgrade Project Team in Washington DC (USA) as Deputy Program Manager of the tri-national cooperative program project office (US, GE and IT).
In 2002 he was assigned to the Italian Air Force General Staff, Logistic Department, and from 2002 to 2008 he served, at first, as Chief of Section overlooking Avionic Systems and Electronic Warfare and then as Chief of, Air Defence Aircraft, including EF2000 In 2008 he was assigned to Segredifesa, National Armament Directorate 4th department, dealing with Fighter Jets and Guided Weapon Systems acquisition programs. As Head of Logistic Aeronautical Programs Office of the Programs Coordination Department of the General Secretariat/National Armament Directorate, he was responsible for the coordination, management and setup of all international aeronautical programs. During this assignment, he was leading negotiator in numerous international cooperative programs. From 2013 to 2016, he was appointed RPAS Division Lead at the Air Armament Procurement and Airworthiness Brach (DAAA) of the National Armament Directorate, responsible for the acquisition of RPAS employed by Italian Armed Forces.
